CANADA
Canada is increasingly being seen as an alternate education destination. Students can choose from about 90 universities and about 150 community colleges and technical institutes. The choice of programmes offered is varied covering a host of courses. The mode of application: Students can apply directly to the universities or through the Canadian Education Centre (CEC). The cost of education varies in different universities & colleges. Aid at the undergraduate level is very limited.

At the post graduation level a mix of funding, scholarships, teaching assistanceships is available, contact respective university /college for more information. The average fees for undergraduate studies is around Can$ 6,170 per annum. The cost of living depends on the city or town with average living cost around Can$ 9,865 per annum Accommodation facilities can be had either on-campus (in residential colleges) or off-campus in home stay with family, sharing a house with other studetns. Part time employment, cooperative programmes provide for a student to work during his course of study. It is possible to work on campus during course of study. On graduation, international students can work one year full time before returning to their country. Academic Session, intakes are usually September & January. It is better to start planning one year in advance. Eligibility Requirements: Admission rquirements and eligibility criteria vary from institution to institution, though there is emphasis on good grades. A student can apply for an undergraduate degree / Bachelor's degree after clearing Class XIIth exams. A first or upper second class standing is necessary. Most university look for a minimum 70% in Class XIIth for undergraduate programmes. There can also be exception to this rule in some universities and in colleges offering diplomas. TOEFL / IELTS scores are necessary. For application to Masters programme, a candidate requires 16 years of education i.e. completed four years at the graduate level. One could also do a bridge course for this purpose. For an MBA GMAT scores are necessary. GMAT score around 600 with TOEFL 550 and relevant work experience is emphasised. For Masters programme in other fields, GRE scores may be required. Pursuing medicine after MBBS in India is very difficult. Duration of Study: A bachelor's degree is usually for 4 years, a Masters for 2 years, Diploma takes 2 - 3 years while a postgraduate diploma takes about 1 year.
